Course 219 - Adult Communication Principles & Methods

This course introduces three primary methods to communicate effectively with any type of audience you may encounter and provides the necessary tools to improve your daily communication skills. Participants will engage in instructional exercises that will empower them to determine which method to employ in different situations, set the stage, and deal with fear of speaking in various situations. Moreover, participants will learn about the three types of communication: presentation, instruction, and facilitation; time management; accepting constructive feedback; facilitation preparation; practice and delivery; and handling disruptions and disturbances, including conflict and working toward resolution.

  • Infrastructure presentation:

    • St. Croix Crossing Bridge (2017) replaced the aging and congested Stillwater Lift Bridge, improving traffic flow and safety.

    • The historic Lift Bridge was restored and converted into a pedestrian and bike-only crossing by 2020, now part of a scenic 5-mile loop trail.

    • Chestnut Street, formerly MN-36 through downtown, was redesigned as a pedestrian plaza, enhancing walkability and riverfront access.

  • Networking: Connect with fellow right-of-way professionals

  • Gourmet pizza and sides for lunch!

Learn to Curl!

As we approach another Minnesota winter, please join IRWA Chapter 20 for a fun and entertaining "Learn to Curl" session at Frogtown Curling Club in St. Paul!

Date: November 14th 2024

Board meeting: 11:00am

Curling and networking event: 12:00pm

Location: 743 West Ave. N. Saint Paul, MN

No curling experience required! Snacks and beverages provided.

What to bring:

Everyone should carry in a separate pair of clean rubber-soled tennis shoes

  • To keep the ice clean, you should carry these shoes in and change at the arena

  • Ice is slipper! Make sure these clean shoes have good traction.

  • Do not wear boots with metal grommet - they scratch the ice. Think clean tennis shoes

Wear warm flexible clothing in layers

  • The arena portion of the club is not heated - if it's cold outside, it's cold inside (we have a very nice heated club room to warm up in)

  • Jeans usually aren't very flexible. (We try to keep duct tape on hand for tears and repairs)

  • As you play, you'll warm up from sweeping and walking - dress in layers so you can cool down and warm up as needed.
